Evenimentul a avut loc în Los Angeles, iar printre cele mai apreciate filme se numără „The Fabelmans”, în regia lui Steven Spielberg, și „The Banshees of Inisherin”, în regia lui Martin McDonagh.
Ceremonia a fost prezentată de Jerrod Carmichael, iar actorul de comedie nu i-a ferit pe cei prezenți de câteva replici înțepătoare, însă punctul pe I a fost pus de Eddie Murphy, cel care a primit premiul onorific „Cecil B DeMille”.
În timpul discursului său de mulțumire, actorul a avut trei sfaturi importante pentru cei din public: „Plătiți-vă taxele, vedeți-vă de treaba și nu rostiți numele soției lui Will Smith” (n.r. el a făcut referire la momentul în care Smith l-a lovit pe Chris Rock pe scena de la premiile Oscar, după ce comediantul a făcut mișto de soția lui).
